  Oliver's 1835 account   In his seventeenth year (1823) angel visits Joseph. Sins are forgiven. Lord intends to use him to accomplish his work. Sacred history of American Indians in nearby hill, which Joseph sees in vision. Motives must be pure.   ¶ Oliver's History of the Church

  Fayette or Manchester?   The traditional site of the organization is Fayette, New York. But there is evidence that it occurred in Manchester, New York.    
  Minutes of June 9, 1830   Articles and Covenants adopted. Elders, priests, and teachers ordained.    
  Minutes of Sept. 26, 1830   Joseph to receive revelations for the church. Church the Lord's ensign to the nations.
