Minutes of September 26, 1835
The Twelve meet with the "council of the Presidency of the Church" about letters William E. McLellin and Orson Hyde have written about Sidney's school. The two confess and are forgiven.

Date   September 26, 1835   Kirtland council, 119.
Location   Kirtland, Ohio.
Council of the presidency of the church (6)

The council of the Presidency of the church of the Latter Day Saints. consisting of Joseph Smith Junr., Sidney Rigdon, David Whitmer, Wm. W. Phelps, John Whitmer, Hyrum Smith & Oliver Cowdery met to take into consideration, the case of the traveling [Twelve] who had been previously reproved in consequence of certain letters and reports coming to the ears of the council.   "Jared Carter, Dr. Cowdery, and others tried to ruin the Twelve in the eyes of Joseph. … those men so prejudiced the mind of the First Presidency that two of the Twelve were suspended. But there were enough left to form a Quorum and do business.

"Jared Carter, Dr. Cowdery, and others fell through taking that course. They tried to run in between the Twelve and Joseph, and they stepped between the bucklers of the Almighty." Heber C. Kimball, Salt Lake Tabernacle, Dec. 13, 1857, JD 6:127.

"This evening, the twelve having returned from the east this morning, we met them, and conversed upon some matters of difficulty which ware existing between some of them, and president Rigdon, and all things were settled satisfactorily." Diary-2

William and Sidney taught the class that began Dec. 22, 1834 together. ¶ Heber C. Kimball (h3)
Negative reports of the Twelve

Warren A. Cowdery has written about other reports "derogatory to the character and teaching of the twelve."
Reports originated with others   From the testimony of several witnesses (the twelve) it was proven before the council that said complaints originated in the minds of persons whose minds were darkened in consequence of covetousness or some other cause other than the spirit of truth.
William E. McLellin and Orson Hyde complained about Sidney's class

Secondly: An item contained in Elder Wm. E. McLellins letter to his wife expressing dissatisfaction with President Rigdon's school. Elder Orson Hyde was also designated with Elder McLellin, or blamed with him in the matter:
Confess, are forgiven   The two are found "to be in the fault, which they frankly confess, and were forgiven."
