  On Grand River, portage location; laid out, 1830; 1846 population about 2,000. Canadian Gazeteer, 18.
  Oct. 19 [20], 1833 Joseph, Sidney, Freeman Nickerson "at 10 oclock we met an attentive congregation at Brantford and the same evening a large assembly at Mount Pleasant, at Mr. Nickerson's. The people gave good heed to the things spoken."  

Colborne (on the lake) / Northumberland Co., Ontario
  Oct. 22–24, 1833 Joseph Smith, Sidney Rigdon "we went to the villagfe of Colburn [Colborne], and, although it snowed severely, we held a meeting by candle light, <on wednesday evining> and were publicly opposed by a Wislyan Methodist. He was very tumultuous, but exjoboted a great lack of reason knowledge and wisdom; and gave us no opportunity to reply. Diary-1, Papers, 8.

  June 1832 Phinehas Young, Elial Strong, Eleazar Miller, Enos Curtis "We arrived in Earnest Town at the close of the yearly conference of the Methodist Reformed Church, and attended their quarterly meeting on the Sabbath. The priests had heard that I had become a Mormon, and consequently did not know me, although it was not two years since I had preached in the house and attended a conference with the most of them where we then were. At the close of the meeting I begged the privilege of preaching in their meeting-house at five the same evening, which they very reluctantly granted. I had a full house and good liberty, and at the close of my meeting I had more invitations to preach than I could attend to, but I sent seven appointments to different places for the ensuing week.       "We labored in Canada about six weeks with great success, raised the first branch in British America, and returned home rejoicing."

  On road to Simcoe; 1846 population, "about 130" with Episcopal, Presbyterian, and Methodist churches, "four stores, two taverns, one wagon maker, two blacksmiths, two tailors, and two shoemakers." Canadian Gazeteer, 119.

  Oct. 24, 1833 Joseph Smith, Sidney Rigdon [From Colborne to Waterford to Mount Pleasant] "and preached to a large congregation the same evening, when Freeman Nickerson and his wife declared their belief in the work and offered themselves for baptism.   Dec. 29, 1833   "[T]here are 34 members attached to the church at Mount Pleasant, all of whom appear to live up to their profession, five of whom have spoken in tongues, and three sing in tongues; and we live at the top of the mountain!" M. C. Nickerson, EMS 2, no. 17 (Feb. 1834): 134.
