April 10, 1830   Fayette, New York.

This section, commonly known as the Articles and Covenants in the 1830s, was the founding document of the Church, similar in purpose to the charters, constitutions, or articles of faith of most Protestant churches of the time. Portions of it were read at the beginning of church meetings. Eight versions are arranged in a plausible chronological order as follows:

D&C 20 Sources (1): Revelation Book 1; Manuscript at the Church Archives; and Painesville Telegraph.
D&C 20 Sources (2): Evening and Morning Star; Book of Commandments, Law and Covenants, Books A and B.
D&C 20 Sources (3): Revelation Book 1; Book of Commandments; and 1835 Doctrine and Covenants.
